GDES 070 Introduction to Multimedia Design/Interface Design - This class is a combination of Intro to Multimedia and Interface design. What does this mean. Well Mission College wants this class to be an Interface Design class, but the curriculum is still being revised. The class title is Introduction to Multimedia Design. So we will learn basic multimedia by creating interface design projects and book. This is a good class for everyone. If you have already taken several design or application class this will be good practice and fundmentals. I am sure you will learn many new skills. If you are new to Multimedia or design this will be a good introduction to design and computer fundmentals.

Description - This is an introductory course focusing on developing creative design skills that are required to conceptualize and model an interactive experience. The course covers the basic principles of organizing information effectively and creating visually compelling interfaces. This course assumes basic understanding of computer systems. Pass/No Pass Option.

How the Class works

  1. Do one lesson a week. Each lesson includes Book and web reading, videos, and assignments.
  2. Video instruction - Video instruction that you watch on you computer.
  3. Assignments - There are 10 assignments and a final web site proposal.
  4. Assignments are done through: email, written proposal, drawings. Web site graphics - How will you turn in. Email or web site posting. I will like you to make a blog to post your homework. I will have info on how to make a blog.
  5. Lab work - In this class there is to be computer work done each week. This is called Lab work. Each lesson will list lab work for you to do.
  6. Chat - Will be office hours. There is no set time but a list of times that you can login and chat with instructor.

Book - Designing With the Mind in Mind - Author Jeff Johnson - ISBN978-0-12-375030-3 Please purchase this book. We will have weekly reading.

Software - This class uses a both online software like web browser, youtube videos. You will also need access to Adobe Software. Specific Photoshop and Illustrator. You can download a 30 day trial version from the Adobe.com web site. Or go to computer lab on campus. Also I will list several free software you can use for this class.

Class Objective -

  1. Download and install software needed for Multimedia
  2. Use Internet for Reasearch
  3. Reasearch and write text documents
  4. Draw Thumbnails and Comp for Interface designs
  5. Use Software to create graphics and images for interfaces
  6. Use software to create animation for web site and wireless devises
  7. Program and upload basic web site/blog

Times for class - This class is all done online. You can login to this web site at anytime. There is no specific time you need to be in class. If there is chat you will need to come at specific time of chat. You are to do one lesson a week. Each lesson should take 2 to 3 hours. Some might take more/some might take less. Try to have a set time each week to do the class. Makes it easier.

Grading - I am not sure of all the assignments yet. I have a general outline of each weeks concepts and skills, see "lesson page" but it is hard for me to provide points for assignment that I am not sure how long they will take. Each lesson will have an assignment and lab work. Complete each week and you will get full credit for that week. See general list in lesson section. The general rule in my classes is that you do all the assignments for the class and complete the final project you should receive an A.

Objectives - Using the web site Kuler.adobe.com choise a group of color samples. Save the color sample in HTML format. Printout and include in final presentation.
