Adobe Illustrator Lesson1 - In this first lesson we will look at the basics of the application adobe Illustrator.

Reading and watching:

  1. First watch this over view - video - http://tv.adobe.com/watch/illustrator-cs5-feature-tour/illustrator-cs5-feature-tour/ - I don't expect you to do the things listed in the video. I just want you to watch the video to get an idea of how the program can be used.
  2. Reading - Flip through the first 4 chapters of the book. Make sure you understand the basic tools.
  3. Getting to know the Interface is one of the hardest parts of a computer application. Video - working with Illustrator menus - yes I know this video is CS3, but the menus still work the same.
  4. Overview > Overview of the Illustrator tool panel
  5. Learning > Learning the selection tool - These tools is used to select objects
  6. Learning > Learning drawing tools - Tools to create artwork

Hands on:

The Hands on section of the class is where I want you to practice the concepts for the week.

The book has some sample you can download. Try downloading some sample from this link. You can use the login and password from your book - http://www.peachpit.com/illustratorcs5vqs - I copied this link from the first few pages in the book. Some students say it doesn't work. I am not sure it works on my side. You might need to look in the book for the correct link. download the samples from the class book. You don't have to do anything with them yet. I just want you to store them on your computer.

Another place to download good vector graphics - http://www.iheartvector.com/ - this link was broken on 1/22/12 I am not sure if it is coming back.

Another good place to see and download samples is http://www.istockphoto.com/illustration

Just download some graphic samples of what Illustartor drawings look like. They don't need to be in the Illustartor format.
