Course Description:
This course focuses on using Illustrator to create digital illustrations and various kinds of graphics for visual communication. Emphasis will be placed on acquiring technical skills and learning creative strategies for producing a variety of illustrations used in commercial media.
Objective:
On completion of this course students should be able to:
- Use Illustrator tools to create graphic illustrations.
- Learn all basic tools and techniques; pen tool, gradient mesh, text tool, etc.
- Use template to create artwork.
- Review type and layout principles.
- Develop creative strategies.
- Troubleshoot printing assignments.

Recommended text:
MATERIALS: You should have the application Adobe Illustrator CS5. You can probably do all the assignment with cs2,cs3 or cs4. Please make sure that any trial versions of software do not impede in your completion of the course. The West Valley Computer lab will be closed for the summer.

Students must be familiar with basic file management, how to run and navigate a computer, and basic proficiency in surfing the world wide web.
Grading - is done on a 100 point system. 100 to 90 - A, 89 to 80 - B, 70 to 70 - C, 69 to 60 - D, and everything else can be Pass/No Pass. I will usually not fail studentrs but provide a NP grade.
Assignments - Some assignment do not recieve point.

- Animal Landscape drawing - 5 points
- Symbol collage - 5 points
- Numbers - 5 points
- Fruit - 20 points
- Logo - 10 points
- Artist Statement - 20 points
- 3-D assignment - 10 points
- Portrait - 20 points
You will need to create a blog or web site to post your homework. I will list how to do this in week 2.
