Lesson 2 - This week we will learn more about video and start a video project. Yes I know you want to dive right into it.

Goals of this week.

1. Yes more reading. The web video book. Yes I know this book doesn't have lots of instruction on how to use software. I will list some other books below that are software books, but this is a concept book. It has great example sof how people are using video. When we get to shooting video and recording audio the book has good example of the equipment and some how to. In fact look at Chapter 2 for this week. It list equipment that you can buy for video.
2. More reading - Heres is some important technical reading for this class. Download this PDF and we will refer to this throughout this class. Read some of the first pages of this PDF.
3. Shoot some picture with a digital picture camera. I wrote in my last email about our first video for this class will be a slide show type video. I will have instruction on how to use Photostory 3 and Premiere on Windows and i-Photo/i-Movie on Mac. What you can do this weekend is shoot picture with Digital camera. Look below for other student examples.

New For Spring 2011

1. What to watch - Learn from Vimeo - bookmark this and watch when you have time, yes football is over.
2. Midterm assignment - Yes I want you to make talking head video. like - http://www.rocketboom.com/ or a training video like my Zircon Videos.
3. We will shoot some of these videos in class, but you will need to make your own talking head video by March 24.
4. Assignment 1 - will be slide show video. See info below for that. You need to do this in the next 2 weeks.

Slide show video examples -

1. Sample 1 Bangkok House - This project was created in Adobe Premiere
2. ColdPlay Music Video - This was done in Adobe Premiere. It has good timing of music with pictures.
3. Fly Buzz - this has some nice narration. For this project you don't have to have narration over you video, We will do this in 2 weeks. Music all you need.
4. Swing Shift - This fun video of picture downloaded off the Internet. I would rather you use you own picture.

Taking music off CD using i-Tunes. - yes you should practice this.

1. This is an older version of i-Tunes. Heres a video on taking music off a CD into computer for video project. Yes this is on Windows but is the same on Mac.
2. This is a newer version of i-Tunes - Importing Music into Computer using i-tunes

Assignment - I will want you to make a slide show video like you see in belows videos. I will have more info in the next lesson.

Watch the videos for the type of software you have and just practice. Next week we will upload to the Vimeo server.

Windows users - On windows there is a great program for making Slide show videos. It is called Photoshop 3 - I use in the next videos. I am using Windows XP. I am not sure of Vista and Windows 7. Heres a PDF on how to use Photostory

Premiere Video

Using Premiere for slide show. Check out the graphic below. You will need to select the photos in the project window then choose Scale to Frame. This will make picture fit the frame.
