The Products

The products and services are what is being sold in the digital media business. Many of the products fall into four categories Web pages, CD-ROM's, Videos and published material. But, most digital media companies are not just selling one product, but a solution. This solution is a whole suite of products that solve the clients communiation problem. This solution could be combination of CD-ROM, web page, and printed material. To be in the digital media business: is to be a problem solver. When a client has communication problems it is up to the digital media designer to make decisions on what is the best product for the client.
  1. Web Pages - most popular product today.
    Advantages:
    1. Large Audience - the world
    2. Usually inexpensive to produce
    3. Easy Distribution
    Disadvantages:
    1. User needs computer to view
    2. Poor Graphics
  2. CD-ROM's - very popular with games and interactive presentations.
    Advantages:
    1. Good Graphics
    2. Interactive
    Disadvantages:
    1. Expensive design/production
    2. Need computer
  3. Video - very popular with sales presentation and advertising.
    Advantages:
    1. Great Graphics/Dynamic
    2. Easy Distribution - everyone has a VCR
    Disadvantages:
    1. Non-Interactive
    2. Expensive Equipment
  4. Publishing - very popular and traditional way of distribute information.
    Advantages:
    1. People are comfortable dealing with
    2. Inexpensive and many people in the business
    Disadvantages:
    1. Non-Interactive
    2. Now sound and video
