Week 1 - Introduction to Illustrator

This week is an introduction to Adobe Illustrator

Start drawing - this is the practice for the week.

  1. reading > working with menu items
  2. video > working with Illustrator menus
  3. video > working with Illustrator documents
  4. reading > control panel overview
  5. Overview > Overview of the Illustrator tool panel - study this panel, many of the item will be on the test.
  6. Learning > Learning the selection tool - These tools is used to select objects
  7. Learning > Learning drawing tools - Tools to create artwork

     

 Chapter 1 and 2

Find examples of a Illustrator Drawing in a Magazine and bring to class.

Week 2 - Lets Draw

This week we practice Drawing

Assignment - Finish the turtle drawing. Part 2 > add a landscape behind the Turtle.

Don't forget to bring your Illustrator sample to class. See assignment 1

Week 3 - Learning the Tools

This week you will need to practice the tools.

Make sure you know these tools.

  5. Reading > Zoom and moving Window
  6. Reading > Master Pen tool
  7. Reading > Change Pen Direction

 Read the handout on creating texture and symbol brushes. # 4 in the list to right. Create a series of small drawing that can be used as brushes.
week 4 - draw the fruit

This week is all about the graident mesh tool.

Chapter 24

The book has no good Gradient mesh examples.

 Assignment - draw some fruit. the key to this assignment is to draw 3 or 4 pieces of fruit and place them in a composition. Using a digital camera take your own picture and use Illustrator to draw your own fruit.
Week 5 - Begin Type

This week will will:

  1. Review your Homework.
  2. Begin typing about type.
  3. Learn about Adobe Open Type
  4. Learn more about Adobe type.
  5. Heres my favorite Font site.
  6. Heres the Mac fonts
  

Assignment -

  1. Type assignment, due next thursday
  2. Midterm explained
 Practice all the type effect explained in class.
Week 6 -
  1. Review type.

 Chapter 14 - Live Color Assignment - need to make artist statement from midterm explained. I have larger printer in CR-6. I will show you how to print out. Download a series of photos and practice using the Live Trace. Try using all the different settings in the live trace window.
