Spencer's interest in Jazz and Classical music began at the age of ten when he studied Classical music and the viola. Playing the slide trombone in high school, he joined the Jazz band which traveled and performed across the United States and Canada.

Through the study of various instruments including viola, slide trombone, saxophone, clarinet and flamenco guitar, Spencer has accumulated first hand expertise in aquiring and caring for instruments. Through trial and error he has found some of the most renowned instructors in Northern California.

He spends his time searching for new examples of the finest musical performances in his favorite genres: Baroque, Romantic, Impressiontistic genres as well as American and Euorpean Jazz.
